How You Can Prevent Stings This Spring

June 15, 20253 min read

With the lovely spring and summer months, it is not uncommon to get phone calls from worried people about a stinging insect being found on their property. Don’t worry! We have trained technicians who know how to safely remove hives and nests with minimal risk of a sting for you or our team.

Did you know hives could come through the roof and near the ground through wall cavities in perfectly good places,’ he continues, ‘and also in the least expected places… hanging out of trees and from ceilings and walls.

Lots of people wonder how to discourage bees or wasps from making a home in their yards. Here are a few, friendly suggestions:

  • Limit flowering plants, as bees and wasps love the nectar from blooms.

  • Be mindful not to leave leftover food from BBQs or picnics outside.

  • Try to avoid eating sugary treats outdoors.

  • Keep your food covered tightly to avoid attracting them.

  • Wear closed-toed shoes to protect your feet.

  • Stick to neutral colors instead of bright or floral patterns when dressing for outdoor fun.

  • Regularly check your property’s exterior for any early signs of hive-building.

Bees are classified as pollinators, which do the important work of transferring pollen to flowering plants and are vital to the ecosystem. In fact, one-third of our food supply depends on insect pollination  most of which is provided by the bees!

While bees are important, we may already be facing a loss of them over the last couple of years, and that could lead to shortages for several food crops we all consume. Which is why we now offer chemical-free bee removal methods. Each situation is different and our methods assure the safe extraction of the honeycomb and the bees.

What to Expect from Our Services

Swarm Removal: If you see a swarm hanging on a tree or fence, we use a special bee vac to gently collect them into a screened box for safe transport to a bee farm.

Colony Removal: If there's an established colony, we have two methods to choose:

1. Trapping: This method is perfect for brick or stone structures. We create a one-way trap for the bees to leave but not return. This allows us to reduce the colony size over time while minimizing damage to your property.

2. Cut Out: This involves physically removing the bees and their comb. It’s the most effective way to prevent future hives and typically takes less than four hours!

Chemical Treatment: If chemical-free options aren’t feasible, we may need to use chemicals to treat the hive, ensuring safety for your home.

We strongly recommend against trying to tackle hive removal on your own with DIY methods or online tips. It can be risky for you, your neighbours, and pets!
